"It takes a village."
Welcome to the Bradley Hills Village website. Read the story of our Village, check out our Calendar of Events and sign up for our newsletter.
Our Story: On March 13, 2014, 15 residents from the Bradmoor and Huntington Terrace subdivisions attended an initial meeting to talk about a "Village" for our part of Bethesda. We wanted to explore a way for neighbors to connect with and support each other to create an intergenerational community and make our “village” a good place to live for a lifetime.
Many communities in Montgomery County and the metro area have already created successful villages, and each is unique. We formed an Exploratory Committee and began to consider different models. We named our village Bradley Hills Village and held a Community Meeting on June 21, 2014. Speakers from two existing Villages shared their experiences and a needs assessment survey was launched at that meeting. The survey response was encouraging, with more than 15 percent of the 750 households in the neighborhood responding. The response to the survey indicated strong interest in the Village concept.
Getting Organized: Our Exploratory Committee took the next steps to create a governance structure, writing bylaws, incorporating in the State of Maryland, and filing for and receiving nonprofit tax exempt status from the IRS. At the same time, a rich program of social activities began which grew into the vital program offered today. Activities include: walking groups, a book discussion group, Voices in the Neighborhood educational programs, coffees, music and current events programming. Our Village publishes an e-newsletter (with print copies available to those who request it) that describes upcoming activities and other important news.
Where Are We Now: We are now offering important services (errands, regular calls and visits, light handyperson tasks) to those who signed up as Full Members and request such services. By the second quarter of in 2016, we will offer transportation, within limited distance. We have a group of volunteers who are eager to help provide these services and have completed the necessary training.
To request services, call the Bradley Hills Village service request number: 240-600-1846, 9am-5pm weekdays, or email firstname.lastname@example.org. A BHV service request coordinator will get back to you within 24 hours. Please give 48 hours’ notice to fulfill service requests. Information in greater detail is distributed to Full Members, and will be added later to our website.
Become a Member: BHV decided early to adopt a Village model that is member-based and uses member dues, donations and grants to cover Village costs. Both Associate and Full Membership are available. Associate Members can participate in all the activities of the Village and Full Members are able to access all services. We hope you will join because you believe in the Village concept and want to be part of a community that shares the goal of living in a supportive, intergenerational neighborhood.
Our Service Area
The two subdivisions form natural boundaries: Ewing Street west, Greentree Road north; Old Georgetown Road east; Roosevelt Street/and portions of Glenwood Street, Huntington Parkway and Bradley Boulevard to the south- a total of approximately 800 homes with many homes under constructions. These boundaries could expand as we grow.
